Marvel's Hero Project

Marvel has released their first comic featuring a transgender hero, Rebekah, as a part of their Hero project featuring everyday people making a real difference.

Not a long post, but this is a story to make me happy to see. First, that a company like Marvel is doing this is wonderful, they have huge influence and can make for a very positive voice. Second, Rebekah is just delightful, a beautiful young lady with an engaging style. See her interview here:

The expression "identifies as" gets used a lot when talking about trans and non-binary people. It's also used by a lot of bigots to denigrate the trans experience. It's an expression that I would like to see fade away.

What does dysphoria feel like to me?

This question made the rounds on Twitter recently and it's a powerful and deeply interesting one I think. However, before I dive into how it feels for me, I want to be clear: dysphoria is not a requirement for being trans.

It's not polite when you get it wrong

I've talked about voice issues before, for many of us in the trans community it remains a major source of frustration and irritation. This is especially true on the phone.
